Original Work by Richardson Composer Will Have Premiere at Denton Festival

DALLAS (April 18, 2013) – The NHB Dallas concert band will introduce a spirited work by Richardson composer and musician Stefan Treber during a one-hour concert on the Center Stage of the Denton Arts & Jazz Festival at 1:00 p.m. Sat., April 27. (Festival activities are free at Quakertown Park, 500 N. Bell Street, Denton.)

"A Spring in My Step was composed during the first half of 2001 and was originally intended for marching bands," said Treber. "It is dedicated to my first composition professor, Dr. Jerry Wallace, who taught theory and composition at Richland College for over 30 years."

Treber, who holds an MA from the University of North Texas, has composed for classical guitar, band, orchestra and chamber groups. His compositions include rock, blues and country. He currently teaches guitar and music theory and plays with selected groups including the UpSwing jazz band, which will perform at 4:00 p.m. April 27 on the Festival Stage in Denton.

NHB Dallas performs year-round for a variety of organizations. Repeat performances in addition to the Denton Festival include area ceremonies for the U.S. Navy, the VA Hospital for National Salute to Veterans Week, and Christmas at NorthPark Center. In 2012, the band was invited to entertain the crowds gathered near the Adolphus Hotel for the widely televised Children's Medical Center Holiday Parade.

A trumpet professional with a master's in music performance, Rossi has taught music at the university level, played in symphony orchestras, and judged band competitions both in and outside Texas. He also is a veteran whose service included playing for the U.S. Marine Drum & Bugle Corps.
