In memory of William Schwartz
Schwartz, William "Bill" William ("Bill") Schwartz, born on May 31, 1921 in Canton, MS, passed away Sunday, May 30th, 2010, surrounded by his family at his home in Dallas, Texas. Among his many interests and accomplishments, was a lifelong passion for music. Beginning with his high school traveling band, playing at the Cotton Bowl and at the Kentucky Derby, continuing on with the 106th Battalion Band of the Mississippi National Guard and since 2007 as a member of the "New Horizons" orchestra, reaching people of all ages his love for music. Bill was also and avid golfer. Rain or shine, Bill was always ready to play a round of golf. Bill Schwartz was a patriotic American and had a very strong love for his country. At the age of 22, Bill was among the youngest Captains in the United States Air Force, and was appointed to the Air Force Command and General Staff School at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. After his service for his country, Bill graduated with honors from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. It was in Chicago that Bill met and married the love of his love, Hilde Schwartz in 1950. Bill had several business interests, one of which brought him and his bride to Dallas in 1951. In 1961 Bill joined Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co., which later became a part of Mass Mutual, devoting a 46-year career to the service of families and businesses as a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and a lifetime membership in the Million Dollar Roundtable. While his young family and demanding career grew, Bill was a tireless volunteer in many organizations. Bill served as Temple Emanu-El Brotherhood President, and was on the leadership team developing Arts Festivals and other new fundraising events. Bill served The Jewish Federation of Dallas and was a devoted volunteer, fundraiser and Board Member of the Town North YMCA, working for decades to help build a stronger community. Most of all, Bill will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a true gentleman. Bill led a life unselfishly devoted to others, and had great joy in serving his family, community, and country. Bill is survived by his wife Hilde, his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Suzy Schwartz; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Julie Schwartz; son Lawrence and fiancée Jackie Gilbert; and grandchildren, Allison, Matthew, Sam, Cole, Zack, Cameron Schwartz and Shelby Tucker; his niece, like a daughter, Judy Silverstein and her husband Dr. Russell Silverstein; brother Maurice Schwartz and his wife Cecelia; and sister Miriam Paletz. His gentle soul and sweet spirit will be missed by the many lives he touched. Funeral services will be held Tuesday June 1, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. Temple Emanu-El Lefkowitz Chapel. Burial services to immediately follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to your favorite charity.
