Press Release by Jim Lawrence
DALLAS (Dec. 10, 2012) – The New Horizons Concert Band of Dallas (NHB Dallas)
will give a free performance on Fri., Dec. 21, at 6:00 p.m. at NorthPark Center's
NorthCourt, between Nordstrom and Macy's. The concert band appearance will be
followed by the organization's jazz band, UpSwing, at 7:00 p.m.
The NorthPark Christmas concert, a tradition for NHB Dallas, will cap a busy December
in which the band entertained outside the Adolphus Hotel for the Children's Medical
Center Holiday Parade and presented a concert at First Baptist Church of Irving. In
addition to its holiday concerts, repeat performances include area ceremonies for the U.S.
Navy and concerts for the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival, the VA Medical Center and
other organizations. Unlike many community bands in North Texas, NHB Dallas, with
musicians from Dallas and many surrounding suburbs, performs at a variety of venues
across Greater Dallas throughout the year.
About the conductor
Mike Rossi became music director of NHB Dallas in March 2010. Under his leadership,
the group has achieved its highest artistic level to date and has experienced
unprecedented growth. A trumpet professional with a master's in music performance,
Rossi has taught music at the university level, has played with symphony orchestras and
has judged band competitions both in and outside Texas. He also is a veteran whose
service included playing for the U.S. Marine Drum & Bugle Corps.
About NHB Dallas
Established in 1999, NHB Dallas is a nonprofit association currently consisting of 68
