OUR MEMBER WINS THE ROYCE FRANZONI AWARD

Our Member Jimmie Stewart Wins the Royce Franzoni Award.

One of our multi talented members, Jimmie Stewart, won the Royce Franzoni Award.
Jimmie not only plays Bass Clarinet in our Concert Band, Tenor Sax in the UP SWING Band (along with Bb Clarinet when needed) he races cars.

Jimmie has enjoyed being a racecar driver for many years and wins most of the time.

This recent award is given in the honor of Royce Franzoni, who was a retired Lt. Colonel from the Paratroopers, and an auto crosser. He was a very humble, selfless individual, and it was his desire to establish an award in honor of a friend of his, whom he considered to be even more humble etc. Royce was always going out of his way to assist others. Unfortunately Royce developed cancer of the brain and passed away very quickly before the award was established. The Equipe Rapide Sports Car Club decided to establish an award in his name and present it each year, by a vote of the board of directors, to the individual whom they felt was the most deserving of it.

The criteria for this award are:
You must run all 10 events in 2006.
You must finish 1st in your class.
The board of directors must vote you eligible for it.

In addition to running with this club, Jimmie also competed in the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America), where he finished 1st in the point standings. You will see two different numbers on the cars in the pictures. He ran #7 with ER and #167 with SCCA
Way to go Jimmie !!!!

I know this blog about the Royce Franzoni Award is over a year old. However, this is new news to me. As his Daughter, seeing an award like this in his name for a sport that he truly loved, warms my heart. I was choked up seeing this. Dad had some wonderful qualities that he was able to embellish in the community. Thank you for honoring those qualities. We all need to remember to be better humans in this world!

Sincerely,
Tiffany Franzoni
